The most common method for upgrading suspension bushings to bearings has typically been spherical bearings, due to their ability to articulate, relatively lower cost, and common availability.  The problem with spherical bearings is that they have much looser tolerances due to the nature of their design. They use a single ball, encapsulated in a race that is typically swaged around the ball, just tight enough for the ball to rotate. Spherical bearings are also exposed to the elements, so water and dirt can easily get into the bearing. With very little use, the ball becomes looser in the race and clearances grow.
